Team Wi-FI

For event teams such as the worship team, cinema and so on there is a separate Wi-Fi available called "Elburton Methodist Team". This Wi-Fi is designed for those who will be streaming videos or other live content that will be used as a part of the event. Those users get a higher data allowance. At EMC we have three types of internet access available to our guests and teams. 

1. Elburton Methodist Guest Wi-Fi

2. Elburton Methodist Team Wi-Fi

3. Elburton Methodist wired internet

The final internet service is provided through one of the network points around the building. These enable devices to connect to our highest speed connections. This service is used by our fixed equipment such as photo copier/printer projectors, PCs. However, if you have a need to use this please just let me know and we can discuss/activate the relevant wall port.

2.0          Introduction

The Internet is a rich resource of information which Church Council of Elburton Methodist Church ("Church Council") believe is an invaluable asset to all users of the Church Premises ("Premises"). 

For this reason, the Church Council provides a wireless internet access service ("Internet Service"), which is made freely available to all users of the Premises.

All users are responsible for ensuring that their Internet usage complies with this Internet Usage Policy and is ethical and lawful. Users are reminded to always use caution when revealing personally identifiable information via the Internet.

3.0   Acceptance of Terms

By using this Internet Service you are accepting the Terms and Conditions described in this Internet Usage Policy in full. If you do not accept this Internet Usage Policy you must stop using the Internet Service immediately.

Parents\guardians must give consent for children in their care to use the Internet service.

4       Content Filtering

The Church Council is concerned about the safety and privacy of all users, and of children and young people particularly. In line with the Methodist Church policy on safeguarding, the Church Council has a responsibility to protect children and young people from risks posed by the Internet. For this reason, the Church Council uses the services of “Church DNS” to provide Content Filtering. This filtering will restrict or deny access to certain websites and content, however, the Church Council cannot guarantee to eliminate all the risks posed by use of the Internet.

  1. Child Supervision

Parents who wish to allow their children access to and use of the Internet Service should ensure that usage is appropriately supervised. By allowing your child access to the Internet Service you are allowing them access to all of its facilities, including, but not limited to, email, chat rooms, social media, forums and other communication facilities. It is your responsibility to determine what is appropriate for your child. 

  1. Monitoring

The Church Council reserves the right to monitor and record Internet usage patterns, in order to ascertain the usage of Internet Service or to establish if a user has contravened the Terms and Conditions describe in this Internet Usage Policy. The Church Council has no means to intercept or scrutinize the contents of any material posted, uploaded or submitted via the Internet Service.

  1. Intellectual Property Rights

The Church Council does not claim ownership of any materials posted, uploaded or submitted to the Internet whilst using the Internet Service. 

  1. Termination of Service

The Church Council reserve the right to discontinue access to the Internet Service at any time, for any reason and without notice.

  1. Acceptable Use

In using the Internet Service you agree not to: 

  • Post, publish, distribute or disseminate material or information that is offensive, defamatory, obscene, indecent, threatening, abusive, harassing or unlawful;
  • Post, publish, distribute or disseminate material or information that incites discrimination, hate or violence towards any person or group on account of their race, religion, sexual orientation, disability, nationality or otherwise;
  • Send junk email, spam or any other unsolicited messages;
  • Download of any copyrighted materials belonging to third parties;
  • Use any information or material in any manner that infringes any copyright, trademark, patent or other proprietary right of any party;
  • Perpetrate any form of fraud, or software or music piracy;
  • Participate in any form of online gambling;
  • Undertake any activities for commercial or for personal gain;
  • Visit Internet sites that contain obscene, racist, hateful or pornographic material;
  • Visit Internet sites that contain violence, weapons, terrorism or militant material;
  • Knowingly make available or upload files containing a virus, worm or corrupt data that may damage the operation of any computer or property of another;
  • Collect or store personal information about others, including email addresses;
  • Impersonate any person or entity for the purpose of misleading others;
  • Violate any applicable laws or regulations regarding acceptable use of and conduct on the Internet;
  • Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any computer systems or networks;
  • Attempt to bypass the security settings or use the Internet Service in a manner that may damage or disable its functionality;
  1. Indemnity

 The Church Council shall be indemnified from and against any breach by you of this Internet Usage Policy and any claim or demand brought against the Church Council by any third party arising out of your use of the Internet Service and/or any content submitted, posted or transmitted through the Internet Service, including without limitation, all claims, actions, proceedings, losses, liabilities, damages, costs, expenses (including reasonable legal costs and expenses) howsoever suffered or incurred by the Church Council in consequence of your breach of this Internet Usage Policy.

  1. Church Team Supervised usage

During many church activities children are in the care and under the supervision of their parents or guardians. On occasion the Church may run activities during which children are supervised by members of Elburton Methodist Church Team. During these “Church supervised” activities the team leader for the activity will ….

  1. Obtain additional\separate parental consent for children to use the Internet facilities without parental supervision
  2. Provide adequate staffing where the Internet is being used in
  3. Policy Breaches

If at any time this policy is deemed to not have been followed the team leader for the activity will report this to the minister in pastoral charge.

  1. Exceptions

Exceptions to this policy will be agreed by the “Church Leadership Team” or Stewards and reported to the next Church Council.

  1. Approval & Review

Approval & Review of this Policy It is the responsibility of the Church Council to ensure that this policy is reviewed on a regular basis.
